Classical Ballet Memphis

Location

Classical Ballet's school is conveniently located at 3405 Summer Avenue between Highland Avenue and National. All studio floors are 'sprung' to prevent injuries and to safeguard developing muscles.

Enrollment

Enrollment is open to students 4 years of age and older, regardless of race, nationality, or ethnic origin. Special consideration is given to mature students under the age of 4. At Classical, we believe that every child has the right to be trained slowly and carefully by a qualified teacher in a safe, pleasant environment. Classes are structured to develop each student's individual physical and artistic capabilities. Classical Ballet recognizes that not all students are intent on a professional career; however, the dance instruction does encourage all students to strive for the very best effort of which he or she is capable.

Curriculum

Ballet: The Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus is the basis for ballet training at Classical Ballet. Founded over fifty years ago in London, the RAD program stresses basic, graded ballet instruction of a specific quality and standard.

Children's Syllabus:

Pre-Primary, Primary, Ballet-VIII.

Created by Dame Margot Fonteyn, the Children's Syllabus is designed to meet the needs of children who attend ballet class once or twice a week. It is carefully structured on all levels to contribute to each child's general education and development. Musicality, discipline, deportment, coordination, and a sense of performing are parts of the syllabus. It serves as excellent preparation for the student who wishes to continue with more advanced ballet studies. A section of the Children's Syllabus is devoted to the special requirements of boys.

Major Syllabus:

Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Intermediate II, Advanced, and Solo Seal

The Major Syllabus is for the advanced student who studies ballet seriously with the possible objective of making it a career as a dancer or as a teacher in dance-related field.

Rules of Class

Students are required to arrive and leave the school in street clothes or suitable cover-up.
